Cerebral Spinal Fluid

What’s it all about?

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is an important, clear liquid in the body that has a chemical makeup similar to blood plasma and seawater. It is sometimes called "liquid light" because of its glowing quality. CSF is made in the brain, where it cushions and protects the brain from injury. It flows down the spinal cord, supporting and helping it stay flexible and easy to move.

The CSF then moves back up from the spine to the brain in a rhythmic cycle, around 6-9 times per minute. This flow nourishes the brain and spinal cord, while also helping to flush out waste and toxins.

Craniosacral therapy works by improving CSF flow, boosting circulation, and helping to cleanse and refresh the brain and spine. A key benefit of this improved flow is that it can release stored trauma—both emotional and physical. This can lead to deeper healing, reduced chronic pain, and relief from stress, promoting a sense of well-being.

Craniosacral therapy also helps balance the autonomic nervous system, which controls the body’s response to stress. By improving CSF flow, it supports the body’s natural healing processes and helps release long-held emotional and physical tension.

So, the next time you think about your body, remember the important role of your craniosacral system and the "liquid light" being produced in your brain, which supports both your physical and emotional health.
